What if I still need to get my child's belongings?

What is the plan for students who are now at home?

Starting Monday, March 30, 2020, CAPE teachers will be sending detailed programming information to families electronically.  For students in K-3, emails will come to parents.  For students in grades 4-9, emails will come to students and parents.

How much work do students need to do at home?

The government provided schools with guidelines for time and content.  It is up to the school to provide details.  We know that some students will complete tasks quickly and other students will need more time. As a staff we discussed how to support each of our students and families and have the following details:

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3:

  • can expect about 5 hours of work per week.

  • work will focus on 4 key areas:

    • letter, sound and word recognition

    • reading accuracy and fluency

    • printing and creative writing

    • math

  • emails will go home every Monday.

  • teachers will connect with families throughout the week.

I have emailed all parents information about Google Classroom. Please look for your email, and follow the directions on how to sign in. If you have any questions, please email me at lcarvalho@capeisgreat.org

I signed up for Epic, and also sent a request to your child's email. Epic is a website where you can read books online. Please join, and explore the website.

Thank you, Mrs. Carvalho

Dear CAPE Parents,

Thank you for your continued support during the recent changes and school closures across the province.  We know there are many questions and want to reassure parents that we are in the early stages of planning for the future.

Here are some key pieces of information for our CAPE families:

  • The staff is continuing to work to provide feedback to you about your child’s progress. Term 2 report cards will still be ready on March 29, 2020.  You will receive an email about staggered pick up times for families to know when to come to the school to collect report cards.  If you missed the pick up time today for student belongings, you may pick them up then.

  • Updates for parents can be found in mass parent emails as well as on our Facebook page.

  • Emails, phone messages, and Facebook messages will be answered routinely.

  • We are in the process of planning for student learning to continue.  It is important to us to have a plan that meets provincial guidelines. These guidelines will be shared with schools in the near future. Plans must also be practical for student learning, for all students. These plans are not made quickly and so we thank you for your patience over the next week or so while details are confirmed and plans are solidified.

  • Programming for the duration of school closure will focus on core learning so that students have the necessary knowledge for the next grade.  There are many choices of how this learning can happen and we want to ensure that the decisions we make will have the greatest benefits to students and are also easily supported by parents.

Please watch for upcoming updates. Again, we thank you for your patience and support.  The feedback from our CAPE family and the ability to work together is truly what makes CAPE great!

PROGRAMMING

We are in the beginning stages of a plan to ensure students may continue to learn while away from school.  The program will focus on core skills of language arts and math.  The use of technology will be a key element in connecting students with teachers.  Details of programming will be sent to parents after tomorrow's meeting between Alberta superintendents and Alberta Education.

We thank everyone for their support in keeping our children and families safe.
